The New York
Metropolitan Opera presents Satyagraha. The Metropolitan Opera broadcasts live high-definition performances to cinemas around the world.
Phillip Glass's 20th century opera Satyagraha is visually spectacular. The story is a retelling of Indian Lawyer Mahatma Gandhi's formative philosophical experiences as a young man in South Africa.
The Sanskrit lyrics, drawn from Hindu scripture Bhagavad Gita, are accompanied by a minimalist score. In an awe inspiring display of large scale puppetry, acrobatics and supertitles, Phelim McDermott brings an extravagant production to audiences.
Gandhi is played by Richard Croft, Rachelle Durkin plays Miss Schlesen, Kim Josephson plays Mr. Kallenbach and Alfred Walker plays Parsi Rustomji.
