Our skipper!
A sailing trip on a 60-foot yacht around Sydney harbour? Yes, that is correct, I went on a delightful sail with
Merit Sailing on a gorgeous Sunday morning.
As I was to spend two and a half hours with someone on a boat, I brought along Miss S who I knew would keep me entertained. So on a 31-degree and sunny Sunday we find ourselves waiting in anticipation at Wharf 7, King Street Wharf.
After signing off our name, signing a waiver and taking off our shoes, we find ourselves a little spot. It's a little exciting to physically be on a yacht that partakes in the Sydney to Hobart race.
The weather is absolutely perfect, and we're delighted to get such a great view of Sydney. Once we've passed the Harbour Bridge and the Opera House, we enter an eerie fog that ominously lingers for the rest of the trip. Until we return to the harbour once more. But even the fog doesn't dampen our spirits.
The view isn't too shabby, huh?
It's still so beautiful being out on the misty waters, enjoying the sea salt on your skin and the wind in your hair.
There's a very family-friendly atmosphere on deck. From younger kids to teenagers and parents, this kind of sailing trip will cater to all ages.
Learn how to drive a yacht, raise the sail and take it down again. The guys at Merit Sailing try to get everyone involved in the sailing process. Or if you're inclined to just enjoy the views and the sun, sit back and enjoy the cruise around Sydney Harbour.
We sail past North Sydney and Vaucluse to Manly and back again. Even though it's a gorgeous day, it's not the best day for sailing because isn't much breeze. Ultimately the whole trip takes three hours because of the lack of breeze.
Merit Sailing can tailor a package according to your needs. Whether it's a corporate endeavour, social event or team building, a sail on the racey Merit is an exciting and unique alternative to your regular parties.
