Situated on the northern boundary of the City of Kingston - a fact of secondary importance usually for those keen on sun and sea - Mentone is nonetheless known informally to many Melbourne beachgoers as the beginning of the 'second leg' of Melbourne's South-East beaches.

Whereas wonderful beaches like Dendy Street , Sandringham , and Half Moon Bay all occupy the first leg of the south, beaches like Mentone, Aspendale , and Mordialloc offer something different in long expanses of coast, as well as finding a more general and regular use outside of the tourist season.

For this reason these 'everyday' beaches like Mentone are at once an excellent place for a tourist keen to visit a seascape off the itinerary. Beyond this, for Melburnians who have looked around but have yet to find a beach to call home in summer, Mentone is a great starting point.

With a beautiful curve to the coast along its expanse, Mentone is a wonderful place to get in a swim and take in the sunset when conditions are good. With Mentone station and shopping strip nearby, its also ideal for those who aspire to a day at the beach with a quiet drink or hearty meal thereafter.
