This Sunday 23rd October, the Majellan Singers are presenting a feast of Mendelssohn at St Martin's Anglican Church from 2.30pm.Formed in 1991, Majellan Singers is an ensemble of around 16 female singers whose musical backgrounds vary from professional to enthusiastic amateur.Entitled '', this special live music event is part of their annual concert series and will see the Majellan Singers present a unique program of classical works and jazz standards. From the glorious Laudate Pueri to the full suite of motets (op.39), audiences will enjoy the beautiful melodies and superb harmonies for which Felix Mendelssohn is renown for.The Majellan Singers will also be performing Mendelssohn's Song with Chorus, the enchanting You Spotted Snakes or Fairies' Chorus from A Midsummer's Night's Dream. Mendelssohn meets Shakespeare is as good as it gets and you're sure to fall under its spell! The ever-popular Overture to The Marriage of Figaro is equally spellbinding. It's one of Mozart's most well-known and well-loved orchestral pieces and the vocal horn section has been practising with gusto! The different faces of love – and jazz – are presented with mid-century American standards Nice and Easy (Spence, Bergman and Bergman) and Orange Coloured Sky DeLugg and Stein). Nice and Easy, the smooth-jazz Sinatra favourite, makes a compelling case for taking romance slowly: if love's feast is guaranteed, why not take the time to savour every mouthful?Such apparently judicious advice is of no help, however, if you're out under an Orange Coloured Sky. In a knock-out arrangement of the jazz classic, the hapless victim of Cupid's dart explains: 'I was walking along, minding my business – when love came and hit me in the eye!' and breathlessly recounts: 'I've been hit! This is it! This is IT!'.Rounding out the program is the lovely Irish folk tune She Moved Thro' the Fair; the rousing American spiritual Wade in the Water; and Those Sweet Delightful Lilies, a madrigal by Thomas Weelkes that is, well, delightful. All are welcome to come along and enjoy this smorgasbord of classical and jazz songs! Tickets available at the door or contact 0416 267 500 to pre-book. Tickets are priced $28 for Adults and $22 Concession. For more information on the concert program, please visit www.majellansingers.net
