Melbourne’s Best Trivia Nights


Bringing alcohol and knowledge together sounds like a recipe for disaster, but just the right blend of trivia, music and clues for you and your friends to ponder, laugh and argue over can result in a great night out and even a weekly tradition.

Do you love general knowledge or prefer the more specialist music quiz? Does a good prize and the glory of winning get you flexing your mind muscle or is the lure of a local comedian enough to get you in your local?

Below are some of Melbourne's best quiz nights for your consideration. And they're all free to enter.

The Corner Hotel , Richmond – Every Weds from 7.30pm

For all the musos out there, settle in the Corner's lovely rooftop beer garden and get ready to remember those lyrics, name that tune and bust out your rock facts with Jess McGuire (RRR) and George H (shock). Safe to say that if you enjoy their radio shows, you'll love this quiz. Includes a hefty slice of pop culture as well as the music focus, but if you're more Celine Dion than Crystal Castles, it's not your cup of tea.
The Local Taphouse , St Kilda – Every Sunday from 7.30pm

Charming comedienne hostess? Check. Entertaining, varied quiz with something for everyone? Check. Random spot prizes and rounds such as "who has the best bruise?" Check! The Local puts on a great quiz night, although the prize of a $50 voucher would barely buy you 2 of the delicious yet expensive brews on offer. Still, a great all round quiz. Arrive early as it's often packed.
East Brunswick Club , East Brunswick – Tuesdays from 7.30pm

Also hosted by Jess McGuire (clearly the Queen of the Melbourne quiz scene) this popular night has 3 rounds, 1. Music, 2. Film & TV, 3.Trashy Pop Culture. With a top prize of a slab of beer and $12 parmas, it will be hard to resist for your typical Brunswickite. Similar to the Corner's night, but for the north siders.
Hotel Albion , Port Melbourne – Thursdays from 8pm

A quiz that's the equivalent of a coffee stamp card – it rewards regulars. As well as the $50 drink voucher for 1st place plus 3 booze prizes, there is also a "jackpot" prize that only regular attendees get to enter (has reached up to $250!) A good solid all rounder quiz with a pleasing mix of super hard head scratchers and questions your Gran would know.
