We're going a step further than paintball, because we're looking for Melbourne's best shooting range. This isn't about military tactics or playing war games, there are shooting ranges across Melbourne where skilled marksmen spend their time, and sportsmen go to train. Whether you have a passion for pistols or lean towards rifles, we want to know where you go to shoot and what makes the range good. We'll look at a few places, but we want your opinions on the best.

The Melbourne International Shooting Club is a good place to start. Featuring high quality ranges catering to a variety of disciplines and skill levels. When you join up as a member you can get free coaching sessions, and all the guns and ammunition you want to try, you'll just have to bring along your eye and ear protection. The club opened in the 1950s, and moved to its current location in the 1970s, so it has a long history behind it.

If you've ever been interested by clay target shooting, then you might prefer the Metropolitan Clay Target Club. Head outdoors and see if you can get the clay targets as they shoot into the sky. There are a range of disciplines suitable for shotgun shooting, and you'll get the opportunity to try lots of different ones. It doesn't matter if you're training for a competition, improving your hunting skills, or just looking for some fun, you'll still feel welcome at the Metropolitan Clay Target Club.

For those who prefer pistols there is the Oakleigh Pistol Club, offering ranges up to international standards and featuring talented members who compete in national and international competitions. All skill levels are welcome at the pistol club, and if you want to get serious there are also plenty of competitions you can train for and get involved in. This is also a good range if you're just after a bit of fun and socialisation, you can spend some time shooting targets before joining other members at the regular Wednesday pizza nights. You'll also find a range of accessories for sale in the store.

So whether you're a professional or just getting started, let us know which shooting range you think is the best. If you need to practice your aim and shoot a few rounds first that is fine by us, just join in the comments to share your shooting recommendations when you're done.
