Fish and chips is arguably the perfect takeway - but finding a great fish and chip shop is no easy task. For the perfect meal, you want the fish to be fresh, the batter to be light and crispy and the chips to be thick and crunchy, and perhaps you may finish your meal with a deep-fried dim sim, potato cake or deep-fried Mars bar.
There are many popular fish and chip shops in Melbourne and Victoria, for example Hunky Dory in Port Melbourne, Hooked in Windsor, Beluga Fish and Chippery in South Yarra, Red Mullet Fishcaf in Malvern and The Fishtank in Brighton.
But we would like to hear from you. Please let us know where your favourite Melbourne fish and chip shop is located and your top menu items. It does not matter if it is a simple establishment or a trendy takeaway shop, we would still like to hear about it.

I have lived three hours out of Melbourne for the past two years and every time I come down I cant help but make a detour to Clifton Hill.
"Daily Catch" on Alexandra Parade in Clifton Hill has mastered the art of a crisp outer batter with a thin sponge under the crunch.
They are also a seafood butcher, so you can see the ripe fresh color of their seafood as you walk in...
Best of all, they even hold a licence to stock beer, and in my opinion nothing goes down better than fish and chips with a chilled Corona...
They do have smaller portions, but the taste is phenominal and the dish will keep you satisifed without walking away feeling a heavy stomach...

I like Fishy Business in Kew - expensive, but they crumb everything in panko breadcrumbs rather than battering, it tastes so much lighter. And they leave the roe on scallops! Nowhere seems to do that anymore...

These two spots are a bit of a drive, but definitely worth it. Tooradin's original fish and chip shop is fantastic and you can eat your bounty by the sea. And this is one I discovered yesterday - The Top Shop in Boolarra (near Mirboo North) - basically the only shop in Boolarra - they cook divine crispy chips, fluffy in the middle. Mmmm.

Fish in Burgundy St, Heidelberg
I have NEVER tasted better chips or fish!!!
It is soooo fresh (the fish breaks appart so easily)! The batter is made in shop and the fish is covered in it just before it gets fried! Or you can order your fish grilled if you want. Oh, and a variety of different fish is on offer, rather than the boring flake.
