Dessert culture is rising over Australia, but it seems it hasn't quite hit Melbourne just yet. While plenty of restaurants have delectable options, dedicated dessert bars can be hard to find. We know about some places you can go, and they usually focus on either gelato or chocolate, but we're hoping you might know about some other places staying under the radar. So help us out, so we can try and find Melbourne's best dessert bar?
Koko Black's Carlton store is one place to try. They're open till 11pm Sunday-Thursday, and on Friday and Saturday they're open till midnight. There are plenty of delicious chocolate desserts to try, like cakes, brownies, ice cream, mousse, and more. They even have a special menu if you bring the kids along, so that they don't miss out on the fun.
Another chocolate filled place is one of the most well-known, Max Brenner. There are a few stores all over Melbourne, open till around 10:30pm during the week, and midnight on a weekend. Chocolate is once again the name of the game, and you can try hot chocolates, 'choctails', cakes, brownies, and so much more. You can even design your own hot chocolate, playing with white, dark, and milk chocolate.

Perhaps you'd like something a bit lighter, in which case, why not try 7 Apples Gelato. They have a full range of flavours of gelatos, sorbets, and yoghurts. Try unique flavours like Turkish Delight, Macadamia and Caramel, or Croccangelo. They're open 10:30 till late, which makes them perfect for a late night desert stop.
Last on our list, is San Churro, head to their St Kilda store, open till 11pm Sunday-Thursday, and till midnight on Friday and Saturday. Their menu includes tempting chocolate cakes, sundaes, ice cream, pancakes, shakes, fondue, and so much more. Of course they also have delicious churros, which are delicious dipped in chocolate. For something special why not try their Chocolate Tapas plate, or pick the Fondue for Two.
Do any of these places top your list of Melbourne's best dessert bars? Or do you have somewhere else you love for late night catch ups. Dessert culture is about far more than the food, it is about a late night social change, and it just so happens that it tastes great. So go out, indulge your sweet tooth, and let us know what you think.
For good-old fashioned ice cream that's ridiculously cheap and ridiculously tasty you can't go past Dairy Bell (Balaka Place, Bundoora). Open till the crazy hour of 11pm, indulge yourself with a big waffle cone or a baby-size one. My daughter loves caramel cookie monster.
