Whether you visit one every week to get all the latest issues, or just enjoy a casual read, it is true that most comic book fans will have one, or a few, favourite comic book stores. The humble comic book store these days is filled with so much more than just comic books, everything that falls within the fandom from t-shirts, to figurines, to DVDs, and more. We've got a few Melbourne comic book stores to put on the table, but we want your help in naming the best, so let us know in the comments where you like to shop.
All Star Comics are a new name on the comic book scene, and their store was opened in February 2011. Despite the age, the two guys who run the store still have a lot of comic book retail experience behind them. They'll go out of there way to find you a comic that they don't currently stock, and they're always getting in new release comics and graphic novels. They're worth checking out, and chances are they'll be around for many years to come.
If the competition came down to awesome websites then
Comics 'R' Us would definitely have it in the bag. Check it out and you'll see what we mean. They know and love comics, and you'll be able to find back issues dating back to the 1960s, and new releases that are constantly hitting the shelves. Of course you'll also be able to stock up on all of your figurines, graphic novels, and collectables, as well as other merchandise from popular fandoms.
Then there is
Alternate Worlds, stocking a huge range of comics, novels, paper backs, games, and more. You can check out loads of new releases in store, and pre-order your favourite upcoming comic books so you'll get them as soon as they're in store. They also host a range of events including Open Gaming and Collectable Card Games. You can check out any upcoming events on their
website.
So there are a few tips from us, but we're sure you've got more. Whether the store focusses on a DC/Marvel showdown, or stocks the best range of hard to find graphic novels, we want to know why you think it is the best. We might have missed one of Melbourne's greatest comic book stores, so let us know in the comments your views on Melbourne's comic book scene.
