If you've ever wondered about packing up the kids and making the move to the country, before realising you could never leave the city streets, then perhaps children's farms are for you. Whether you're planning on staying for a few hours, or the weekend, there are quite a few children's farms around Melbourne that offer a fun look into life on the farm. If you've got a bit of children's farm experience under your belt, then let us know which one you like the most, because we're looking for Melbourne's best children's farm.
Bundoora Park is filled with lots of interesting things to do, as well as the children's farm there are playgrounds, a heritage village, and a wildlife park. There is a small cost to visit the farm,
$6 for a child, and
$8.50 for an adult, but for that price you'll be able to meet a range of different animals. There are alpacas, emus, cows, goats, ducks, chickens, pigs, and more. You can pet or feed the animals, and there are also pony rides available for children. The park is about 30 minutes out of the city centre, and available every day of the year except for Christmas Day, Boxing Day, and New Year's Day.
A bit closer to the city you'll find the
Collingwood Children's Farm. Entry is
$8 for adults and
$4 for children. You'll find the usual animals at the park like cows, sheep, and goats, but there are also some interesting residents. Magnificent peacocks roam the grounds, and there are also some rare breeds of pigs and chickens. While you're there you can milk a cow, or go on a pony ride, or for something different you can don protective clothing and come along to the bee-keeping duties. If you head along on the second Saturday of every month you can also go to the
Collingwood Children's Farm Farmers Market.
Animal Land Children's Farm is a bit more expensive, you'll pay
$16 per child, and
$8 per adult, but there are also lots of activities to enjoy. You can milk the cows, feed animals, collect eggs, or even nurse baby animals. You'll also get to take part in other farm activities like planting trees, growing seedlings, going on a tractor ride, or poopa scooping. This is a great location for birthday parties because there are so many activities to keep the children entertained.
These aren't the only ones available, there is also
Chesterfield Farm or
Myuna Farm, the latter even has buffalos and reptiles for you to see, and a train to take you of tours round the farm. You might know a children's farm that we haven't mentioned, if so please tell us about it in the comments. So let us know which children's farm you like the best, and just why you think it is so great.
