Some might argue that Melbourne is more about the small things, than big attractions. This doesn't mean that there aren't some great sights that are must-sees when you hit the city. So out of all of the spots Melbourne has to offer, what would be the one place that you think people just shouldn't miss. Is there one attraction that encapsulates Melbourne at its best?

Sports fans would argue that the
Melbourne Cricket Ground (the MCG) is Melbourne's greatest glory. This is probably the most well-known stadium in all of Australia, and hosts some of the biggest AFL games of the season. It also comes alive on Boxing Day during the Boxing Day Test cricket match. This is also the home of the National Sports Museum, where you can learn all about historic sporting achievements throughout the country. The MCG helps to show the importance of sport, especially ALF, in the Melbourne and Australian identity.
Federation Square draws many polar views, some view it as an iconic landmark, and others as an eyesore. It is still a great place to go to explore Melbourne's cultural hub. This square is home to the
National Gallery of Victoria, as well as the
Australian Centre for the Moving Image, among other places. You can find bars, cafes, or restaurants to grab some food or drink, and the square is also home to various events.
Another Melbourne attraction, that is perhaps one of its most well-known features, are the
Melbourne Laneways. By wandering through these smaller streets you can uncover unique boutiques, quirky cafes, bohemian bars, and creative street art. These are great places to explore whether you want to shop and eat, or just admire the buildings and art works that surround you. It is certainly hard to avoid the laneways when you're in Melbourne, and some would argue that unless you've wandered these laneways you haven't seen Melbourne.
If you had a visitor, what is the one attraction that you'd insist they went to see? It could be anything from an iconic building, to a well known shopping strip. From the
Docklands, to the
Old Melbourne Gaol, to St. Kilda Beach, what is Melbourne's must-see attraction?
