If you're after a dose of culture then one of the best places to start is an art gallery, but in Melbourne you've got to make the choice of which one to go to. There are some great Melbourne art galleries whose collections range from the Romantics to Renaissance and from Photography to Postmimimalism. So we've decided we need to track down Melbourne's best art gallery, whether it is the large national collection, or a small hole in the wall you've discovered. We've got a few to add to the list but we want to know what you think.

Obviously a great place to start is the National Gallery of Victoria, probably Melbourne's most famous art gallery. There is such a large range at the gallery including large collections of Australian pieces including indigenous art. For something a bit different you can check out the Australian fashion and textiles collection, or check out the multimedia or sculpture collections. The National Gallery is also a great place to get the kids interested in art, they'll be able to participate in workshops and fun activities to foster their creativity.

For something more specific there is the Centre for Contemporary Photography. It might not be your scene if you prefer to look at Monet and Van Gogh, but if you're inspired by beautiful photographic images then it is definitely worth a trip. Check out both Australian and international talented photographers.

Contemporary art can also be seen all over Melbourne. The Australian Centre for Contemporary Art has some of Melbourne's best contemporary art collections, and the exhibitions are constantly changing to ensure that there is always something fresh to see. There is also the Heide Museum of Modern Art with a great collection that also includes architecture and landscape.

This isn't even a comprehensive list of what is on offer. There are other well-established galleries, as well as smaller ones that highlight local art. Let us know which ones you've discovered, and which you like the most. We're after Melbourne's best art gallery, but we need your help to find it.
