We were on our way to Flinders Street station after visiting the Grand Trailer Park Taverna . Passing the Melbourne Town Hall, we noticed a few people starting to gather expectantly behind temporary fences. We also noticed some large projection units, and decided it was worth hanging around for a while to see what was going on.

At 9.00pm, the Town Hall was suddenly lit up. As well as the lights playing across the facade, there were little animated elves running across the walls. We noticed a large projected countdown timer, starting from 5.00 minutes, and wondered what was to come.

It turned out to be a delightful light show. It is a show that celebrates Melbourne's multiculturalism, displaying colours and designs that are representative of the various countries from which Melbourne's residents have come.

Ultimately, it expresses Melbourne's seasons greetings to all.

It is such a lovely, positive, free event, that I recommend it to everyone! It made me feel very proud to be a Melburnian.

The projections have been professionally designed and installed by The Electric Canvas , a world class Australian company which specialises in the field of large scale projection.

These Christmas projections are occurring between 9 and 11pm every night from now until Christmas Day. There's no need to stay for the full two hours - 10-15 minutes is probably enough.
