Cheese lovers, get ready for a creamy, oozy afternoon to tantalise the tastebuds.

The Melbourne Specialist Cheese Show will unfold in all of its wickedly delicious glory on Sunday August 23rd from 11am to 4pm at the Palladium Room at the Crown Entertainment Complex.

Any true turophile (cheese lover) will be tripping over their triple bries to get to this one! It showcases over 300, that’s right, 300, of our nation’s best hand-crafted fromages made by 30 of our finest cheesemakers. Ooh la la!

Once you’ve paid an entry fee, tastings are unlimited, though I recommend keeping them to a somewhat dignified number. Feeling all-cheesed out and not being able to even look at cheese for the next month isn’t ideal. Be selective.

Entry also gives you five wine or beer tastings, so you might like to get some expert advice on what goes with what at a cheese and wine or beer-matching tutorial. It’s reasonably priced at $15 and runs for an hour.

So, what’s your favourite? Mine is blue cheese, but I know it’s a love-it or hate-it type of thing. It is, quite frankly, my favourite food on the planet. That said, I also understand some people prefer their food to be dead, rather than teaming with live bacteria. C'est la vie. Each to their own.

So, if a beautifully matured, aged blue isn’t your thing, maybe a soft camembert, sharp cheddar, or maybe the 2009 Grand Champion Cheese winner might be the thing to make you go ‘Wow’.

The range on offer is extremely varied, so it’s also a fantastic opportunity to learn more about the different varieties of cheese, and maybe stretch the comfort zones with a taste of something you’ve not tried before.

While cheese is divine in its simple, unadulterated form, it’s also the star of many beautiful dishes, so you might like to pick up something for a cheese-based treat at home with the family. Whet your appetite and feast your eyes on these stunning recipes and images.

Secure your tickets to the Melbourne Specialist Cheese Show by calling (03) 9381 1777 or emailing australiancheese@ihug.com.au. Limited tickets are available at the door.
