[SECTION]Pet and Animal Events of 2014[/SECTION]
Whether you want to enjoy the cuteness of animals with none of the mess, or you're looking for an event that Fido can come to, there is a huge range of pet events on this year.

There are pet and animal events geared towards all ages. Send your small children off to the Melbourne Zoo holiday program, teens can experience life at the animal hospital in the Vet for a Day program, while adults can go to a dedicated adults-only session at the zoo. Or, the whole family can enjoy pet festivals.

[SECTION]Kids Go Wild at Melbourne Zoo[/SECTION]
Let the kids run riot at Melbourne Zoo for the day at the January school holiday program, Kids Go Wild . Promising a day of adventure, they will get to meet the animals and zoo keepers and even see restricted areas of the zoo.

Suited for primary school age children, the day will cost $68 for an entire seven hour day of fun. The program runs each weekday. Booking ahead of time is essential.

Budding vets can experience a day in the life of a vet at Healesville Sanctuary's animal hospital. The Vet for a Day program, aimed towards secondary school aged students, gives participants hands-on experience. Exactly what they learn will depend on the needs of the injured animals brought in that day, but could include diagnosis, health checks and post mortems. While participants will be kept out of animal surgery, it's certainly not for the faint of heart.

The Vet for a Day program runs on selected days in January from the 15th until the 23rd, and costs $125 per student.

[SECTION]I, Animal at Melbourne Zoo[/SECTION]
If you would like to go to the zoo without encountering masses of small children, your best bet is to go to the adults-only I, Animal . Back for another year after a successful summer 2012/2013 season, the tour runs on selected Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings until March.

I went to I, Animal last summer and was a little disappointed that I did not get to see many of the zoo animals. The audio tour encouraged participants to reflect on their childhood, but surely the best way to do this would be to rip out your earphones and dash around the zoo trying to see all of the animals. It was also quite expensive- $39 general/$35 concession- considering the short amount of time you spend at the zoo.

[SECTION]Pets in the Park[/SECTION]
A free family event where even Fido is welcome, Pets in the Park boasts pet parades, discount microchipping, Q&A with a mystery celebrity vet, and pet competitions. Buy the latest pet wares from stalls, go on the carnival rides and enjoy live music.

The annual festival will be held on Saturday the 22nd of March this year, at Central Park in Malvern East. Facilitated by the local council, it is family-focussed and features information on responsible pet ownership.

All pets are welcome, no matter how weird, but be sensible about keeping them on leads or in cages.

[SECTION]Eastern Regional Pet Expo[/SECTION]
A variety of pet-crazy clubs and business gather for the annual Eastern Regional Pet Expo .
Speak to the experts about what pet suits you best, learn about how to take care of your pet, enjoy pony rides, and watch dog training demonstrations. Bring your pet along to participate in fun competitions, such as most impressive trick, best tennis ball retrieve and a pet and owner lookalike contest.

The expo will be held on Sunday 6 April at Gilbert Park Reserve, Knoxfield.

[SECTION]Dog Lovers Show[/SECTION]
Gasp at the talented Wonderdogs , take a look at different breeds, buy your pooch the latest pet products and learn about taking care of your dog at the Dog Lovers Show . After a successful inaugural show in 2013, the show is back and is set to be even bigger.

There will be plenty of seminars , presented by experts, aimed at making you a better dog owner. Topics include choosing the right dog to fit in with your life, dog first aid, and even how to tell your dog that you're pregnant. There is also a stage dedicated to interactive presentations to teach kids about responsible dog ownership.

Unfortunately you cannot bring your dog to the exhibition, but there will be plenty of pooches on show. You can also find out about getting a new dog to add to the family, with a Rescue Dog Zone to equip you with all the information you need.

The Dog Lovers Show runs from Friday 2 May until Sunday 4 May, and is held at the Royal Exhibition Building in Carlton. Ticket pricing has not yet been released, but should be around the $20 mark (this was the 2013 admission cost).

[SECTION]Million Paws Walk[/SECTION]
Raise money for the RSPCA while taking your dog on the most fun walk of the year- the tenth annual Million Paws Walk . After you've registered and convinced your friends and family to sponsor you, it's time to clip on your fur-baby's leash and have a leisurely walk alongside thousands of other dogs. There will also be entertainment, stalls, dog competitions and more on the day.

Held on Sunday the 18th of May this year, the walk's main location in Victoria will be the Albert Park lake. Registration costs $25 adult/$15 concession.
