Don't you just love living in a city with a festival to celebrate just about every interest and quirk we fascinating humans might be into?
The Melbourne Magic Festival, held at the Northcote Town Hall from June 28th to July 10th, will have all manner of magicians, and masters in the
ancient art of magic, appearing (and disappearing), while bedazzling the young, the old and in-betweens with magic tricks, clowning about, the odd rabbit or two, and some awe-inspiring illusions.
The 60 magicians themselves span all ages too, from 5 to 72. Coinciding with the school holidays and with many shows suitable for children, the festival is a compilation of 20 different shows, 100 performances, various workshops where you'll learn a trick or two, and the Trick or Treat Magic Shop. It's been a huge hit since its inception three years ago – and is the largest festival of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere. Go Melbourne!
Shows range from the slippery antics of
Luigi Zuchini in Spaghetti, Spaghetti to the downright spooky
Thank God You're Hypnotised, a hypnotism show – without hypnotism. Tricky, huh.
You can get a really good look at the shows, as well as book tickets, on the
Northcote Town Hall website.
Those with a fascination for all things magic might like to wave their magic wand and enter the wild, wild world of the
Australian Institute of Magic. You never know, with a bit of practice, you might be a star act at next year's show.
