Event: 24/03/2010
Get ready for the biggest and best flower and garden display in the Southern Hemisphere. The Mitre 10 Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show bursts into glorious bloom from March 24th to the 28th at the Exhibition Building and surrounding Carlton Gardens.

To be quite honest, it was something that has escaped my event radar until pretty recently. When I got there for the first time last year, I was totally blown away. Not only did I find myself floating around amidst the most stunning display of nature at her glorious best, I was also struck by the passion and creativity of our flower and garden lovers. They do some positively mind-blowing things with our flora.

Don't underestimate the size and splendour of the show. It's an extravaganza of spectacular colours and fragrances that will literally invite you to smell the roses – and the begonias, geraniums, rhododendrons and more. The Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show attracts more than 100,000 visitors annually and is ranked among the top five garden shows in the world.

The show brings Australia's top floral and landscape designers to Melbourne. The Landscape Show Gardens combine our love for the great outdoors with award-winning artistry and style, while the Great Hall of Flowers, under the big, beautiful dome of the heritage-listed Exhibition Building, contains brilliant exhibits of our leading florists and floral designers, a Growers' Avenue showcasing our floriculture industry, and a Retail Flower Market where you can purchase beautiful blooms direct from the growers.

There's plenty to discover and explore, including the Garden Sculpture Exhibition. Experts and leading garden experts will also be on hand to help green your thumb.

It's a fun family day out, with plenty of entertainment and a designated Children's Garden, which offers face painting, Pot-a-Plant sessions, animal patting farm, butterfly enclosure, and more.

After pounding the pavement for a while, you and your bod might like to indulge in a little pampering in Garnier World. Looks heavenly.

As well as focussing on all things fun and floral, the show also expresses a strong environmental message about the climate we live in. There are also plenty of garden and floral retail products to browse or buy for making our gardens the best they can be. Happy gardening!
