It's on our doorstep. I can hardly contain my excitement. Why? Because the
Melbourne Food and Wine Festival dishes up 250 delectable events all over Victoria from March 12th to 23rd. Why else? Because over 100 of them are under $100. And why else? Because many of them are free.
Do you need more reasons? How about the fact that the world's best chefs from across the globe descend on Melbourne, which just so happens to be regarded as one of the food capitals of the world, for
Masterclasses of magnificent proportions.
Can you imagine it? The enormity of this event boggles my food-obsessed mind year after delicious year. I mean, the
official guide is 87 pages long. Now, if that's not some of the most enticing 87 pages I've ever browsed, I'm not sure what is. In fact my fellow foodies and I have been pouring over it for weeks, with diaries close by, and can't wait to run ourselves ragged getting to all of our circled events in the space of 12 days.
These well-seasoned organisers, however, have made it easy to browse your preferred types of food and wine events – whether at the city's top restaurants, down Melbourne's laneways, on a rooftop, at a host of educational classes or fun tours, or while soaking up some country fresh air or a refreshing sea breeze.
Here are just a few of the ones we circled:
The
Edible Garden at Federation Square, and
Foodie Films combined with cooking demonstrations also at Fed Square, and featuring one of my favourites, Babette's Feast, and
Flavour Fiesta at Prahran Market (check out the image!) for a full, fabulous day of tasting and exploring lots of different varieties of fruits, vegetables and deli items, and….
