L'Oréal Melbourne Fashion Festival
We've all seen the fashionistas sitting alongside the runway at Fashion Week, glammed up and hiding behind a huge pair of sunglasses. There's something about fashion festivals that seems to make girls want to channel their inner Carrie Bradshaw and take a seat there too.
The L'Oréal Melbourne Fashion Festival hits Melbourne from the 8th until the 15th of March, with the Australian Fashion Industry showcasing some of it's finest during world-class runway shows. The week will be celebrated with numerous industry seminars and forums, beauty workshops and live entertainment. Once reserved for the celebrities and insiders, the Fashion Festival is actually more accessible than you might think. I can't promise you a front row seat next to Anna Wintour, but I can let you in on a few opportunities to get yourself pretty close to the action.

Presented by David Jones, the Fashion Festival will open in style on Thursday 8th March. The official venue at
Peninsula Central Pier Docklands will play host to a launch party running from 6.30pm until 10.30pm. Guests will receive a glass of bubbly on arrival, then be escorted to a fantastic runway show featuring some great Australian designers including Collette Dinnigan, Alex Perry, Camilla and Marc, and Alannah Hill. The first runway show will start at 7.30pm, with a repeat show at 9pm. For a small price, you can be there - there are limited tickets available from
Ticketek. After the runway shows, the party will continue with plenty of fashion film screenings, live music and entertainment.
Fancy a seat runway-side at a show? You won't be next to Anna Wintour, but you'll get pretty close.
On the night of Friday 9th March, the hotly anticipated Spring/Summer 2012/13 Ready To Wear Collection by iconic Australian designer Alex Perry will début. Limited public tickets to view this never before seen collection are still available, so
get in quick. The show runs for 30-40 minutes from 9pm at Peninsula Central Pier Docklands.
Tuesday 13th March will see Sportsgirl host the LMFF National Graduate Showcase. This is a great event to familiarise yourself with the innovative things breakthrough designers are doing within the industry. Twelve outstanding graduates have been hand-picked from hundreds of applicants, and will showcase their designs on the runway from 7pm.
Very good seats are still available online, so make the time to support new Australian designers and go along.
