For anyone who has ever tried to get a taxi from Flemington after the last race or god forbid driven their own car, there is a realisation that there has to be a better way.

Well there is.Travel to the Cup in style by boat. During the annual spring racing carnival a veritable flotilla of boats makes make their way to the Flemington racecourse via the Maribynong River. And you could be onboard.

By Tramboat

One of the novel ways is get to the races by Tramboat. If you haven't seen this little beauty trundling along the Yarra then it is basically a cross between a boat and an old Melbourne green tram. So it is a bit like riding in a Melbourne icon to an iconic Melbourne event.

The journey starts with a glass of sparkling, served with canapés followed by croissants filled with smoked ham, tasty cheese and semi sundried tomatoes. You then arrive at the Tramboat's special landing located at the entrance gate of the racecourse so you can enjoy your day at the races. The tramboat leaves 30 to 45 minutes after the last Race

All beverages are included on the cruise to Flemington including wine, heavy and light beers, soft drink, orange juice and tea and coffee.

On the way back there is a bit of party atmosphere especially if you have backed a winner. There is more food including vintage cheese's and crackers and a mezze platter. The bar is also open for you to purchase alcohol if you choose.

Last stop Waterfront City Marina/Exhibition Centre (Casino) at approx 6.30pm.

PRICE: Derby, Cup and Oak's Day $130.00 per guest.

Race Day Cruise Packages

So you don't have a marque to go and hide away in all day. Well why not have a boat you can call home for the day docked adjacent to the entrance gate. First of all is the cruise out to Flemington Racecourse on Derby Day, Oaks Day or for the Melbourne Cup. The whole cruiser is decorated for the day. You are welcomed aboard with a glass of Australian sparkling wine, and during the cruise you can enjoy morning and afternoon tea, a gourmet stand up buffet including seafood, cold platters, salads and dessert.

Television monitors for race viewing are on board. You can peruse the form guide on the sun deck or just relax and admire the views. Chairs with white cloths and big umberellas on the deck mean you don't need to leave all day. The fun party continues with entertainment from a DJ as you travel back to the Waterfront City Marina.

There is also a dress code "Dress to Impress" -- Men (collared shirts and dress shoes), Ladies ( semi formal to formal) -- (strictly no denim). Unless you want to go inside and bet you could spend all day on the boat. This is a large boat however and quite crowded. But then again crowds are a part of the Melbourne Cup.

Prices from $239 to $255 depending on the day.
