I came across the delicious Medlow fruit jellies some years ago and they have been my firm favourite ever since. A short drive from Adelaide in the hills, you can find this favourite factory Outlet for the Medlow jellies and other varieties of favourite chocolates.

The day we visited they were making chocolate covered jelly snakes. My children were delighted to watch the snakes going down the conveyor belt and being coated in chocolate and then cooled and popped out the other end. They were even happier when the lady making them offered them one each.

If you have never had a truly fresh jelly snake dipped in chocolate, you are in for quite a treat. Forget the hard dried up jelly snakes that have been sitting in the shop for ages, these ones are fresh and soft just like jelly snakes should be, dipped in really fresh chocolate.

There is a huge area here for the making and the purchasing of the sweets and chocolates. They offer free samples and free demonstrations where you can watch everything being made depending on the day you arrive.

There is no obligation to make any purchases, however if you choose to do so, you can do it at direct factory outlet prices.

One of my favourite things with factory outlets are the factory second bundles, where if you do not mind your treats being slightly misshapen, you can get them for a fraction of the price.

We purchased one enormous bag of misshapen fruchocs (probably around about 2 kg worth) for around three dollars on the day we visited.

Medlow are also famous for fruchocs - they are a type of fruit centred sweets dipped in chocolate and rolled into a ball shape.

They also stock all the favourites, including jelly frogs and chocolate dipped ginger. My children were allowed to purchase one item each; one chose a large bag of chocolate frogs and the other chose a large bag of Australiana animals, all made out of chocolate.

You may be able to resist and just come in for the free tastings or perhaps purchase one small bag of treats to take with you. However if you fancy yourself as a bit of a bargain hunter like me and cannot pass up a great saving, you will probably end up (as we did) with a huge show bag full of specials to take home.

Well at least we had gifts for everybody on our way home and plenty of treats for the car journey back to Melbourne.
