Meadows is a normally tranquil country town in the Adelaide Hills south of Adelaide. It's also one of the principal towns of the Battunga Country which lies between McLaren Vale and Strathalbyn.

For most of the year Meadows is probably best known to travellers for the Meadows market , a great bakery with unusual pies, and the Meadows Hotel. It all changes on Sunday October 19 when the Meadows Country Fair comes to town, bringing thousands of visitors to enjoy a proper rural fair.

It's truly a family event with fun for everyone including many activities for kids and toddlers. Children are encouraged to pick up a Daisy Trail and head on an adventure around the fair to pick up lots of goodies from market stalls and displays. There are only 250 bags available so get in early so that you don't miss out.

Older kids will want to try shooting baskets with ex Adelaide 36's player basketball Mark Davis.

For adults, build your own birdbox to bring new visitors to your garden (with a bit of help from Bunnings). Try your hand at the Udder Tug milking competition, test your skills at the Super Catch, or watch the stage show from from Rare DNA and Exactitude Bike Trials Demo Team.

While you won't find the usual range of food trucks that you see in Adelaide, country folk know how to put on a really good spread - just visit Bull Creek Bakery to see why. A Farmers' Alley will showcase the wonderful flavours of food that the Adelaide Hills and Fleurieu Peninsula are renown for. For people with simpler tastes there's a barbeque, or country scones with jam and cream if you have a sweet tooth. I'm sure the country air makes a difference to your appetite!

After filling up on food you'll be looking for more entertainment I guess. Browse the market stalls, look at local crafts, watch the SA yard dog trials, or take the kids to get up close to the animals at the animal expo. Many other kids activities, amusements and rides, live music and performances are on the menu too, so come on down and make a day of it.

In fact why not make a weekend of it? Unfortunately you can't book a room at the Meadows Hotel but there are local B&B's which are just the thing to relax at and spend Saturday exploring the many sights of the Battunga Country south of Adelaide before going to the Meadows Country Fair on Sunday.

Admission to the fair is a very modest $7 per person, with kids under 12 getting in free. To get more details about the Meadows Country Fair point your pony to the website and the Facebook page . And have a good weekend - you'll be in good company.
