The Sunshine Coast is home to more lavish restaurants than you can poke the metaphorical stick at. With all the hustle and bustle it's easy to find yourself in a restaurant where the staff are more interested in getting you in and out for the next customers. Or better still, feeling the disappointment of paying upwards of $40 for a meal that is barely big enough to feed your cat.

However, Maleny has found the remedy to this world of poor service and under-sized meals at . Upon first look the premises doesn't hint of anything other than a quaint little country restaurant, though coupled with a beautiful hillside vista. Don't judge this book by the cover, or you just may miss out.

After booking online I was greeted by name on arrival by a wonderful waitress named Anita, who assisted us with true country hospitality that made me reminiscent of my childhood in country Tasmania. She assisted us with everything from selecting the perfect accompanying wine, to tempting us with descriptions of her favourite desserts on the menu. All in all the service is so personalised you have to remind yourself you are in a restaurant, rather than a bed and breakfast.

If you enjoy a drink, boasts a wine list that includes a range of the popular Australian wide wines, down to fine drops from Maleny itself. If you feel like something a little more special then their cocktail list is also well worth a peruse.

Their dinner menu of Australian cuisine includes scrumptious seafood and chicken, but the pick of the mix is the chef's specialty, the range of steaks. My personal recommendation being the reef and beef, succulent steak topped with local prawns. The menu also has seasonal adjustments to include the freshest of ingredients.

Interestingly, when out of rocket for the accompanying salad, the chef, Jamie, personally came to the table to apologise. Better still, he informed us that his salad ingredients all came fresh from his garden. Few restaurants can guarantee freshness and local ingredients quite like this.

While not usually a big fan of dessert, the waitress had me sold with the story of a regular who comes in for the bread and butter pudding, which was expressed to have the most traditional of flavours. I must agree they hit the nail on the head. The coffee was also divine, and a good set up for the drive home.

For those looking for a wedding location, also cater for both wedding ceremonies and receptions. They offer a choice of a 'cocktail wedding', 'buffet wedding' or 'formal wedding' menus, as well as a gazebo and seating.

is closed on Mondays but open for dinner all other days. They are also open for lunch on Fridays, and the full breakfast, lunch and dinner on weekends and public holidays.

If your tastebuds are calling for fresh flavours, and you want that personal touch, then stop in at "where our patrons enjoy themselves so much… they become regulars".
