A quality establishment that opens up all kinds of social situations among colleagues and friends alike. Dark and chic, yet spacious and airy. The bar is just the best, expect amazing service. That's right at
Match Bar and Grill on Little Lonsdale Street. I don't know if my drinks could have arrived any faster than they did on this occasion. I am impressed.
I was fortunate to be invited here by a consulting client recently for their Christmas party. It felt like I was in a casino the moment I landed myself at the bar to use another "match cash" voucher for around four drinks in total; this took me to the end of the night.
Watch out for the Match house red, it is extremely rich and strong; guaranteed to give you a hangover (depending on your mood of course) after two glasses. Their Midori lemonades and their lemon, lime and bitters also pack some flavour and zing.
Food is abundant to say the least. Although greasy at the base; their sausage rolls are divine with fresh herbs, as well as their vegetarian pizzas. The french fries were a little too much, and it felt a little weird (although different and amazing) that the first canapé served was whole raw olives. Their seafood pizza was interesting, I liked it.
Its nicer outside, although you can get uncomfortable easily, and the glimpses of the State Library of Victoria was just really cool in itself with a great bunch of people; 20 of us in total. My only qualms would be that firstly, the night flew by way too quickly, and secondly their couches inside (although comfortable) are too low with that sinking feeling. Otherwise awesome service, and an establishment worth coming back to for more and more. It's definitely a 'Match' made in Melbourne city heaven.
