Cultish Popularity for Sydney's No1 Vietnamese Banh Mi Pork Roll
Marrickville Pork Roll Deli has assumed a cult status in Sydney and it has been stopping foot traffic on 236A Illawarra Road with divine Vietnamese banh mi rolls. Banh mi in its simplest form is a combination of French baguette with Vietnamese ingredients.
It was the long queue that spilled out of the entrance and down the road at 12pm that led me to Sydney's most popular Banh Mi pork roll. Otherwise, I would easily missed this hole-in-the-wall bakery/sandwich takeaway in Marrickville
The menu at the Marrickville Pork Roll Takeaway is not extensive but it is enough to satisfy your hunger at any time. They offer the traditional Banh Mi baguette rolls with our choice of fillings: traditional pork, BBQ pork, meat balls, pork skin, chicken, tuna or salad. The price for the roll is $5 each!
I must admit, Vietnamese pork rolls offer great value and a great lunch alternative to your typical deli sandwich! In every traditional roll you will find there are over 10 fresh ingredients, freshly baked bread and it tastes delicious. There are places that offers 'gourmet' pulled-pork rolls, such as Great Aunty Three, but they charged $11 for a roll. So in comparison, Marrickville Pork Roll really stand out in terms of affordability.
Classic Pork Roll $5 (Come with pate, mayonnaise, carrots, onions, coriander and shallot)
My friend ordered the the classic pork banh mi roll. After the first bite, my friend declared the long crisp bread roll was amazingly crunchy on the outside while the inside was airy and fluffy.
The generous fillings of tender sliced Vietnamese pork and devon ham in combination with pate, pickled carrot and onion, lettuce, tomato, pickled daikon, shallot, coriander, mayonnaise and drizzled with the banh mi soy sauce made this the ultimate lunch delight. The addition of fresh chilli further elevated the flavour. My friend was astounded with the the delicate balance of sweet, salty, sour and spicy flavours. It was an instant hit with my friend, who excitedly proclaimed that she would come back again for this. In one word she summarised, 'sensational'!
My BBQ Pork Roll has similar fillings as the Traditional Pork Roll and it was utterly delicious! The freshly made bread roll was indeed crusty outside and light and soft inside. What I really enjoyed was the distinctive home-made chicken liver pate which tasted rich and creamy with the BBQ pork slices. The freshness of the crisp Vietnamese salad mix really complemented my flavorsome BBQ pork.
I must say, Marrickville Pork Roll Deli's fresh salad selections were really the highlight for me. My BBQ pork roll was jammed with pickled carrot and daikon (white radish), lettuce, cucumber, coriander, spring onions, shallot and chili, together with the home-made delicious banh mi sauce that really gave my BBQ pork roll the extra zest and freshness.
We agreed in unison that these were one of the best Vietnamese banh mi rolls we have sampled in Sydney.
Vietnamese Rolls with amazing seductive, visual appeal!
To conclude, Marrickville Pork Roll Deli offers insanely delicious Vietnamese pork roll at a really cheap price. The flavours are genuine and fresh; you will get addicted to it the moment you take your first bite.
Simple genuine good food will attract a cult following
