There is no greater feeling than when the meal before you that you have prejudged to be relatively tasty turns out to be inexplicably delicious with that first bite.

Okay, so there are probably some greater feelings in the world, but that is definitely up there and that is the beauty of a Vietnamese pork roll, or Banh Mi. It appears to be not much more than a sandwich and a cheap lunch option but this clever combination of fresh ingredients makes it so much more. And when you find a place that nails this combination so perfectly, you will wonder how you ever got by without them before.

Enter . This little hole in the wall shop on Illawarra Rd may not look like much but that does not stop people from queuing outside it all day to get their delicious $4 lunch. That is quite a feat for a place in Marrickville where there are endless Vietnamese options on this street alone.

The place specialises in crusty baguette rolls packed full of various types of pork, cucumber, carrot, pate, mayonnaise, coriander and onion. Other delicious roll options include the chicken, meat ball, tuna, salad roll or, my personal favourite, the barbecue pork roll. No matter what you choose you will find the meal extremely satisfying without making you feel like a bloated lump at the end of it.

Takeaway is the only option at this tiny place so if you are looking for somewhere nearby to relax and enjoy your meal, I'd recommend walking over to Marrickville Road and stopping at one of the many little park bench and garden areas in the streets adjoining the road.
