For many Brisbanites, Sunday is market day. Crowds flock to
South Bank,
Fortitude Valley, and
West End, but often the best markets can be found outside the city.
The
Manly Creative Markets set up at Little Bayside Park on Royal Esplanade every Sunday from 8.00am until 3.00pm. Market operators don't take bookings, so stallholders operate on a first come first served basis. As a result, the markets provide an eclectic array of new, handmade and second hand goods. On any given day, you might find handcrafted toys, gourmet snack bars, and crates full of old records.
Entertainment is provided in the form of rides for the children and on the first Sunday of the month, Buskers by the Bay offers live music. If you'd like to set up your own stall, you can see the guidelines
here.
The markets run in conjunction with
Movies in the Park on the first Saturday of the month. This is a family friendly event that screens G and PG rated movies (like Aladdin, High School Musical, and Grease) on a giant outdoor screen.
And on the third Saturday of the month, visitors can stock up on fresh fruit, vegetables and seafood at the
Jan Powers Farmers and Fishermans Market, hosted at the same venue from 6.00am until 12.00pm.
