Getting to know the Maribyrnong River

I love the Maribyrnong river. Admittedly I only recently stumbled across its beauty while walking someone else's dog, but I am in love. I always knew it was there but I had never taken the time to enjoy this little city oasis.

Now I enjoy nothing more than an early morning stroll along the river and it seems like a great place to do other outdoor activities too.

Most mornings, as I walk it's banks with my canine companion, I see hundreds of other people jogging or riding their bikes along the well maintained paths that snake along either side of the river.

There are also an abundance of dog owners taking their pets for a walk or allowing them to go for a run in the parks that dot the edge of the river.

If you head down in the afternoon, you are bound to see a person or two fishing in the sunshine and it is a great place to go for a picnic on a Sunday afternoon.

Most importantly, the air feels fresher there, you can only vaguely hear the hum of Melbourne traffic over the gurgling water and it looks beautiful.
