Marchmont Street

Marchmont Street is a pleasant little shopping area in Bloomsbury, running from Russell Square tube station to Tavistock Place.

On its east side is the recently renovated Brunswick Centre, while to the north, about a five-minute walk from Tavistock Place, you'll find the noise and chaos of Euston Road.

To walk Marchmont Street from end to end would also take about five minutes, but give the place some time (and you'll want to) and you could be there an hour or two (or even longer if you end up in the pub).

The shops along the street are an interesting mix of the old and the new.

And there are plenty of food options to check out, many of them popular with local office workers at lunchtime.

If you're the health-conscious type, you'll definitely want to pay Alara Health Store a visit, situated about halfway along Marchmont Street.

At Alara you'll find a range of health foods, homeopathic remedies, nutritional supplements and more. Alara also has a popular organic cafe that'll happily sort you out for a decent lunch.

Another option is Vegetarians Paradise with its all-you-can-eat lunchtime buffet for only a fiver....

Of course, there are a couple of chain shops along the street too, including Costa Coffee....

In the unlikely event you'll have an urge to buy some building supplies while you're exploring Marchmont Street, you'll be just fine. What I'm trying to say is: you'll find all sorts around here.

If you fancy a pint at the end of your little trip, drop in at the recently refurbished Marquis Cornwallis pub, complete with hardwood floor.

Most drinkers should be able to find something they like among its five cask ales and 23 speciality beers, lagers and ciders. Soft drinks are also available!

And at the Russell Square end of Marchmont Street you'll find a docking station for Boris's bikes, providing you with a convenient option for making your way to your next destination.
