Maleny is a small town just over an hour from Brisbane City that boasts scenic views, picturesque nature walks and great cultural activities that can keep anyone interested.

Nature Walks:

Obi Boardwalk: Situated near Obi Obi creek, this walk is great for beginners as it is wheelchair accessible and only 850 meters return. The track shows the beginning of a subtropical rainforest recreation project and there have been reports of platypus in the creek.

Baroon’s Lookout: A must for any bushwalker. This 4.4km trail is at the start of the Sunshine Coast Hinterlands Great Walk. It starts at Baroon’s Pocket Dam and goes through streams and woodland.

Gardners Falls: With Beautiful views of crystal clear water this 800 meter track is for the novice bushwalker. At the end of the track is a fantastic swimming hole and picnic spot that is great for hot days.

Mary Cairncross Reserve: For anyone interested in local rainforest flora and fauna. This 1.7km track is wheel chair accessible and gives walkers the chance to see local wildlife and strangler figs. A gold donation is asked upon for entry. If you’re hungry then check out the cafe next to the reserve.

Wine and Cheese:

Colin James Fine Foods: For the best cheese, gelati and coffee in town then go no further than Colin James Fine Foods. Their ice cream and gelati are award winning. Open 7 days.

Maleny Dairies: Go on a guided tour through the factory and farm to see how milk is produced and bottled. Tours by appointments on Monday, Wednesday and Friday or open on Saturday from 10.30am – 2.30pm. $7 per person.

Maleny Mountain Wines: as you drive into Maleny you will pass a giant barrel. Stop in to taste some of the best locally produced wine and cheese around. Vineyard tours are at 11 am and 2 pm.


Art Galleries:


David Linton Furniture and Timber Works:
Whether you are admiring or buying, this is the place to see astounding handcrafted furniture, jewellery, homeware and sculptures all made from local timber.

Art of Cairncross: See amazing works from leading and emerging local artists. Open Tuesday to Sunday 10am to 5pm.

Tree Frog Gallery: Showcasing indigenous art as well as contemporary paintings, sculpture, landscapes, ceramics, jewellery and furniture. After browsing have lunch at the gallery coffee shop. Open 10am -5pm 7 days a week.


Getting there:

It’s around an hour and a half drive from Brisbane City or trains run to Landsborough station with a connecting bus service to Maleny. Check out Translink’s website for more details.
