If you've got a preschooler and you love
Alice in Wonderland (or just a crazy hat), you need to head to the State Library of Queensland on Tuesday 7 February for
A Mad Hatter's Tea Party.
One of the library's great events for children and families, the tea party is advertised as a 'merry old morning of songs, stories, tea and tasty treats'. It will be held on the Queensland Terrace on Level 2, which is a lovely big space, surrounded (fittingly) by an amazing collection of heritage cups and saucers (safely out of children's reach).
Kids are invited to wear their maddest hats, and to bring their parents, grandparents or anybody else who likes a zany outing.
The tea party costs $16.50 (includes food, drink and entertainment). But if you're also looking for something free to do while you're at the library, you have plenty of choices. You could visit the free
Look! exhibition, which features illustrations and artwork from some of Australia's best picture-book talents.
You could also call in to The Corner, the library's permanent space for under 5s, which always has fun things going on.
Not far away, you could check out the Queensland Museum, which has recently re-opened after a major refurbishment.
And, if you get hungry again, you could always try
The Library Cafe, which I recently reviewed for Weekend Notes.
All in all, there's a party to be had.
