If you have ever seen Macquarie Ice-Skating Rink you'd say it's just an oval shape for you to skate in. Ok, maybe not oval, but all you'd do is skate around in circles until you got dizzy.

But this, my dear readers, is not what it's there for.

The Macquarie Ice-Skating Rink has a lot more to offer than you may think; there are many more things to do than cling onto the railing of the rink and watch the small children glide past doing tricks and thinking "Dang, why can't I do that?"

If you have friends with you, you can have races around the rink to see who is the fastest.

Go around the rink and see who can get the most number of high-five's in a round (it's most entertaining when another friend tells all those around you not to high-five back).

You can make a giant line of people, skate in a circle and do the Thriller dance, but be warned it's very hard to keep in sync on the ice, particularly as irritated skaters may pass straight through you, or leading to my next point, under you.

Now I don't recommend doing this to anyone but your friends, but if you are confident enough on the ice, if you see some friends skating nearby or a sweet couple holding hands, practice your limbo skills by gliding under their hands or between the pair. Guaranteed to give them a good ol' fright.

The Macquarie Ice-Skating Rink also has limbo competitions and plays fun music like the YMCA, Grease Lightning and the Time Warp for you to skate-dance along to.

The rink is indoors, so it's perfect for a rainy day, it is suitable for children (provided there is supervision for littlies) and you can even book special party events or group lessons for those of you who want to do something new or have never skated before.

Better still, if you're a parent and you want to sit and relax whilst your child skates, you can find a seat next to the window at the upstairs McDonalds and watch the skaters downstairs with a nice cup of coffee in your hand.

So for two hours of fun for under $20 (skate hire is included in the entry cost, but if you have your own skates, you're already one glide ahead of the crowd) definitely take a chance on the Macquarie Ice-Skating Rink, and for those of you that have ABBA on your iPod, if you hear the song "Take a chance on me", you know it's just a sign so pick up your skates and head out.
