M Festival - Nepalese Dumpling (Momo) Festival
You know I would travel far and wide to get my hands on some delicious dumplings, so when I heard there was going to be a festival devoted to dumplings I was intrigued. When I looked into this festival I discovered that there was a dumpling out there that I've never tried before called the Momo which is what will be the main attraction at the M Festival!
Now I hear you all asking what is Momo?
Well simply put, Momo is a Nepali style dumpling – with minced meat or a delicious vegetable mixture with ground coriander, ginger, turmeric, cumin and chili inside a wrapper made out of flour. These types of spices inside the mixture is probably what sets them apart from the more main stream dumplings I have tried before, so I am certainly curious to try it out. Festival organizer Raju Shakya from Solangture says, "Momo is known as the food that brings families and friends together like no other food does."
Luckily you can get your hands on a variety of Momo on Sunday the 26th of March at the M Festival – a free Dumpling festival celebrating Nepal's traditional Holi festival of Colour and Love.
The Velodrome in Coburg will encompass over a dozen unique Dumpling marquees boasting different Momo styles, wrapping techniques, recipes and flavours.
While you eat your way through the festival there will be entertainment over two stages, M Festival's main stage is headlined by internationally acclaimed Nepalese traditional folk band KUTUMBA whose combination of explosive high energy percussion, combined with mystical soundscapes will surely entertain the audience.
The festival will bring a full spectrum of the most unique eastern influenced entertainment and urban grooves with the likes of Chinese lion dancers juxtaposed against beats from Melbourne band 'Big Words', it will be a vibrant fusion of soul, hip hop and R&B throughout the day.
Under a rainbow sky of colour, the aroma of dumplings and the hustle and bustle of food trucks, M Festival is the ultimate love letter goodbye to another lazy Melbourne Summer.
Entry is FREE – you just need to

M Festival is a gold coin donation event, with all proceeds raised going to the NRNA. The Non Resident Nepali Association's Earthquake Reconstruction Project aims to build 1000 homes for victims of the 2015 Nepal Earthquake that injured nearly 22,000 people.
