Bowling is a way to have fun and get exercise at the same time. It's also a good group event, as you want to have at least four members on a team. Bowling is also a good way to de-stress after a long day of working in NYC. In addition, many tourists enjoy bowling when they are at home and like to take advantage of different bowling venues when they are on vacation.

Lucky Strike Lanes and Lounge at 624-660 W 42nd Street (42nd Street and 12th Avenue, to be exact) is a place to do all of the above. You can meet your bowling group or other friends before a game to enjoy a drink in the lounge. After the game, you can either celebrate or drown your sorrows there.

History of Lucky Strike Lanes and Lounge

The Lucky Strike Lanes and Lounge franchise got its start in Hollywood, California, as a replacement for the Hollywood Star Lanes. The Hollywood Star Lanes were where the film "The Big Lebowski" was shot, and had been in business for 43 years before the building was demolished so that a new school could be built.

However, the people who decided to open Lucky Strike Lanes and Lounge still wanted there to be a place in Hollywood for people to bowl. In addition, they wanted the new bowling venue to recognize the history and celebrity behind the old Hollywood Star Lanes. They did this by purchasing Lane #7 from the Hollywood Star Lanes building before it was demolished and turning it into the bar at the first Lucky Strike venue.

There must have been some good luck in Old #7, because the franchise started growing rapidly after the first venue was opened. Eventually, Lucky Strike Lanes and Lounge franchises were springing up all over the country, including New York City.

The Lanes Themselves

There are 26 lanes at Lucky Strike Lanes and Lounge. Having this many lanes ensures that bowlers will not have to wait long before they can start their games. While bowlers are waiting their turns, they can enjoy a game of pool at one of the ten billiard tables. This will get players loosened up and the competitive juices flowing. Bottle service is available at both the lanes and the billiards tables, or you can enjoy drinks in the lounge. Either way, you don't have to worry about getting thirsty while you're playing or waiting.

Private Parties and Groups

If you are celebrating a special occasion, you can reserve the Premium Suite. This private area has 4 lanes for the exclusive use of you and your group, as well as a separate bar. In addition, you can use the private DJ to provide entertainment before or after you bowl. If you use the DJ, and you wish, you can use the 20'x12'HD projection screen to play music videos on. Or, you can use the screen for slide shows or any other reason that would need a screen.

Lucky Strikes is great! Like upscale bowling without the grungy-ness you feel afterwards from other alleys. Their dress code is pretty funny and their lounge areas are nice.
