Andrew Lloyd Webber's Love Never Dies is now in its last week at Melbourne's
Regent Theatre. This beautiful production has been running in Melbourne since May, and will move to Sydney in the New Year.
Love Never Dies continues the story of one of the greatest productions of all time: The Phantom of the Opera. It picks up in 1907, ten years after the Phantom's disappearance from the Paris Opera House. He is now living in New York's Coney Island, amongst the amusement rides - in this era, Coney Island and its colourful freakshows were known as another wonder of the world. Christine, on the other hand, is now one of the world's best known sopranos. Unhappy in her marriage, she accepts an invitation to sing at a renowned opera house in New York. For those of us who have known and loved the Phantom of the Opera for years, we can imagine what will ensue when the Phantom discovers Christine is in New York, and tries to win back her love.
The cast of 36 showcase over 300 amazing costumes, accompanied by Andrew Llyod Webber's score and a 21 piece orchestra. Love Never Dies debuted on London's West End, and last year was awarded Best Costume Design, Best Lighting Design and Best Scenic Design by the prestigious Helpmann Awards. Although Andrew Llyod Webber started writing Love Never Dies in 1990, it didn't debut until ten years later. It was the first ever sequel production to be shown on the West End, and has received rave reviews in Melbourne.
Because Love Never Dies must finish its run next Sunday (18th December), all
Ticketmaster A-reserve tickets are now only $65. Even if you aren't familiar with The Phantom of the Opera, Love Never Dies will be a feast for your eyes and ears. The costumes and lighting are amazing, and as usual, Andrew Lloyd Webber's music is breathtaking. Take advantage of this wonderful opportunity before the curtain falls for the last time in Melbourne next weekend.
