Are you finding the going to the movies expensive? Too cold to head out anyway? Still want to be social and have heaps of laughs?

Then the answer is simple, make cinema at home by inviting friends over for your very own YouTube mini film festival.

Step 1: Be prepared- It’s your festival so be a good host and prior to the film night ask your mates and matettes to pick 2 short you tube films each and send you the link via electronic mail. You may choose to give genres or lengths of film as categories.

For example, Glen, please find one, two to three minute 1980's weird German music video and also one five minute homemade comedy involving a trampoline and a spade. Sheila please find one ten minute mocumentary on some random winter sport and one five minute B movie horror clip.

Spice it up! Make your amigos search hard for that classic short film, after all it’s your festival and you are the curator, event manager and site owner!

For some inspiration check out these you tube classics,
Crazy Ass Dancing and Charlie The Unicorn.

Alternatively of course you could rely on the fact that your companions are clever enough to find you their own side splittingly good you tube gold, but continuing themes throughout each film, bizarre search challenges and how each of your friends interprets your artistic direction can make for hilarious results.

Step 2: Technology- Download all films onto laptop and connect to a TV screen or projector (plus white bed sheet of course). Make popcorn, put out comfy cushions in chosen film viewing space and dim the lights.

Step 3: Ssshhh- Tell everyone to be quiet and play films in a certain order according to running time, genre or at random. For extra kicks before or after screening, ask each friend to stand up and deliver a monologue of why they chose their particular film and what it means to them.

Step 4: Cringe, Laugh, Cry- Kick back, relax and enjoy the strange, wacky but awesome world that is online pop-culture.
