Want to experience London from a different perspective? While walking tours are typically considered a popular tourist activity, it is also a great chance for you to get out there in your own city and really experience it.

For instance are you a Harry Potter enthusiast, ready to explore the film sites of the movie? You can visit the alleyway off Charing Cross Road that was the real Diagon Alley, or even venture to Platform 9 and 3/4's and have a turn at pushing your trolley into the wall. Discovery Walks provides not only guided tours but also the option of doing many of their walks by yourself with clear step by step directions provided at their Walks of London website.

Not your thing? Don't worry there is plenty more.

Perhaps you are more interested in revisiting a gruesome period in history and following in the steps of Jack the Ripper, down the alleyways and cobblestone paths where the murders took place. London Walks is renowned for this tour which is run by Donald Rumblelow, the author of The Complete Jack the Ripper, who is widely acknowledged as an authority on the subject. There is also no need to book for this tour, just turn up at the meeting place on the day of your choosing.

Or are you a book buff eager to enter the world of Charles Dickens, seeing London from his eyes. You can take the Dickens and Shakespeare walk offered by City Sidewalks and visit a variety of sites they were connected to including The Globe Theatre and The George Inn. City Sidewalks aim to create a private tour that caters for your individual needs and their tours are merely suggestions which can be tailored to your interests.

These are just a sample of the tours that are on offer through these companies and are definitely worth checking out. Even if you are just looking for a drink at the end of the day, check out the pub tours at Discovery Walks and London Walks for a social way to see the city and the inside of some bars. Next time you find yourself with a couple of hours free during the day, be sure to check out these companies as you are guaranteed to find a tour that will interest you.
