Although we were not looking for this particular cafe, when we walked past it we couldn't resist having a look inside. We sat down, looked at what we wanted to have and then ordered. Although this coffee bar (known as Localista) was small, it had an unusual charm that attracts a lot of customers to it.

Localista is a coffee bar in Ubud, Bali. The owners have obviously tried to use the small amount of space they had to create a functional coffee bar; they had pulled all the outdoor blinds up, so the sun and its warmth could come into the bar; all the furniture fit perfectly into the corners, which gave more room and made the bar seem bigger. One of the main parts of Localista which attracted me to it, was the gelato; at the front of the shop, was the freezer. As you walked past, you could see all the flavours of gelato they had.

As I said before, 'Localista' is a small coffee bar in Ubud, but although there was little space, Localista had a calm atmosphere.
When we went up to the counter to order, I decided to have gelati, as it looked so good in the freezer. I was looking forward to tasting some of the flavours Localista had.

When the gelati arrived, it came in separate ramekins - (I don't know why it didn't come in one bowl or cone) - there were two scoops of gelati. The flavours were coconut and chocolate - the best gelato was coconut. The staff had used real pieces of coconut to make the gelati even better than using synthetic flavours. I really like the coconut gelato and would recommend it to my friends; the chocolate was good as well, the cocoa was smooth and strong, a good blend of chocolate gelato.

A lot of places in Bali have free wifi - this was a bonus to 'Localista', even though it was a small shop, the owners had tried to make it more appealing. Giving it a modern touch was maybe what would attract people into the coffee bar.

Free wifi & menu

Localista had a wide variety of food and beverages on its menu, which shows a small coffee bar can still work hard to create different foods, fast.

There were only two staff members working at 'Localista' that day, lucky they weren't at all pushy and over friendly, which made my visit at 'Localista' an enjoyable one.

Hidden away

Neighbouring Localista is a gallery displaying Rio Helmi's photography. There is a door in 'Localista' connecting to the gallery and there is another door at the front of the gallery as well. While waiting for your coffee or meal, you are able to look around in the gallery and sign the guest book, or maybe even buy a photo signed by Rio Helmi. Or if you don't feel like doing that, 'Localista' have a bookshelf full of board games for you to play.

'Localista' is painted a light coffee colour, and has great decor to match the walls. Groovy cushions on the small couch and great seats and benches to sit on while enjoying a piece of cake. A bright red coffee machine will make you a hot coffee while you can sit back relax and enjoy your stay in Bali.
