On days when it's overcast and cold and you're holidaying at the beach, it's time to go exploring. When such a day came along during a recent trip to Crescent Head, I decided to complete the walk out to , a small headland which I had been able to see from my rental property, from the beach, and pretty much everywhere. It was time to get out there.

Even though it was cold, there were others who seemed to share my view. The slope up the hill is relatively steep, so some people had clearly included it on their exercise route.

There were also young men jumping off the rocks that jutted up out of the water beside . They would leap into the oncoming waves, to be washed around the rock, which they would then climb back up and jump off again.

It's not hard to get out to the headland. The path that leads to its base can be picked up along the water's edge, near Crescent Head's main beach and the Crescent Head Caravan Park . This path doesn't go all the way to the top of though. You will need to pick your own way up the slope to the top.

Once you're up there, you can see quite far along the main beach, towards Hat Head to the north, as well as across Pebbly Beach to Big Nobby, the larger headland that sits just beside , with basalt boulders lying below it. There's a seat to relax on if you want to spend time taking in these views.

I ended up walking to again when it was sunny. However, this time it was so windy I had to take photos by holding my camera at arm's length, beyond my blowing hair, and just clicking away. I think I appreciated the views more when it was overcast. I could see better, and the sky added atmosphere to the scene, especially looking back at Big Nobby.

On my second trip, I decided to continue up to lookout on Big Nobby. The route to the top of this headland starts at the highest point of Crescent Head's golf course, which lies jut next to it, right in front of .
