Known as Hornsby's secret garden, is a site full of peaceful bushland, stone walls, flowers and water features. This garden, 2.4 hectares in area, is located on Lisgar Road in Hornsby and thus the name. It is built on a steep hillside with the gardens on different levels adding to the beauty. The gardens are located in Hornsby, around 1 km from the Hornsby station and are open from 8am to 3:30pm on weekdays and from 10am to 4pm EST or 10am to 5pm DST on weekends.
The garden houses over 90 varieties on camellias (some of them more than 50 years old), mass plantings of annual plants, a covered pavilion for events, a shade house called 'Glades' that has a fish pond, a gazebo, three waterfalls, picnic areas and a rainforest walk. Lisgar gardens' flora has a contrast between exotic plants like camellias and the remnant indigenous vegetation that adds to the beauty of the gardens.
The rainforest garden is definitely a popular place in the garden. This quiet walk in between the vegetation makes it hard to believe that you are actually in between a busy suburb. There are plenty of spots in the walk and in the gardens to just sit down and admire the natural greens all around.
There are a couple of annual events that are also held at the gardens. Once a year, the gardens have a Twilight Opening, staying open until 7.00pm allowing the gardens to be enjoyed at a different time than regular. The garden is also popular as a wedding venue.
Lisgar garden's beauty and flowers can engage the visitors in multiple ways.
