Always wondered what Lip stands for? Life in Provence. The concept is based on the way food is made and it's no surprise it's all being cooked in-house. With an open plan kitchen you can see the dishes being created. Julian Chew, is the cafe's founder and chef. His Malaysian background influences the menu so expect to find tasty flavour profiles with interesting ingredients.

The moment you step inside the place is buzzing with a cool local vibe. The interior is cosy and quirky, fitted out with retro furniture. Julian is dedicated to exploring flavours and and bringing out interesting ingredients from around the globe: black limes from the Middle East, dried chillis (pasilla, ancho, and chipotle) from Mexico, pimentos, tahini and dukkah to name a few.

If you're after a healthy wholesome breakfast or lunch, try their organic sourdough bread, free range eggs or chicken. Lip make all of their sauces, chutneys, potato rosti. Unlike many cafes, Lip's cakes, brownies and biscuits are also made in the premises.

There are surprising flavour combinations that tantalise the palate. As a sweet tooth, you can choose from crepes, lamingtons, cakes, and a yoghurt panna cotta with strawberries, watermelon, pistachios and rose water.

Lip Café is located on Waterdale Road with great food, coffee and delicious home made sweets. It's tucked away from busy Upper Heidelberg Road and, if you prefer, you can enjoy the outdoor seated area while lapping up the gorgeous Melbourne sunshine.
