Last year, the Latin American Community Association of QLD brought to the Brisbane public a film screening of Roque Dalton: Fusilemos La Noche! (Let's Shoot the Night) and for those of you that missed this screening, it is on again this Saturday afternoon, with doors opening at 12:30 for lunch. Proceeds from the film screening go towards supporting women that work in factories called 'maquilas' in El Salvador—Comite de Mujeres Trabajadoras de las Maquilas de El Salvador. Everyone's support will be greatly appreciated!

El Salvador, Roque's country of origin, has been in the news recently - with the beatification of Archbishop Oscar Romero . Known for his support for the poor in El Salvador and his promotion of liberation theology, he was a champion of social justice.

In a similar way, Roque Dalton raised controversy at the time in El Salvador with his poetry and writings. But the best way to find out more about his life and his story, come along to the screening.

In addition to a stimulating and engaging documentary, there will be traditional Salvadorean food available prior to the screening.

Pupusas are the national food of El Salvador, and are absolutely delicious!

Quesadilla is a delicious sweet cake, and everyone who tries it, falls in love!

Unlike the popular Mexican quesadillas you will see at cafes around Brisbane - it has the same name and the same pronunciation, but is a very different taste! This is delicious and will go well with coffee, tea or even Flor the Jamaica (a Hibiscus drink served cold or hot) or Horchata!

Horchata is a drink, it is a favourite of mine and I highly suggest you give it a try!

El Salvador is a small country located in the middle of Central America, but it is a beautiful country, in a lush and tropical setting with coffee as one of its main exports and equally as mesmerising culture and tradition.

So for $5, you will not only be entertained but will also have the opportunity to enjoy a complete cultural experience.
