Though the location used to belong to Windsor Safari Park, the only wildlife you're likely to see here today will be that of the plastic-brick variety. That's because the place now belongs to
Legoland Windsor, a fun place for a day out with the kids.
The real crocs, giraffes and snakes have long gone and been replaced with lego versions, some of which you can see on the Orient Expedition in the theme park.
There are 54 other rides to enjoy, including six water rides and two roller-coasters. All this is spread over a vast area of 150 acres.
For six to thirteen year olds there's the Driving School – it's not quite as serious as it sounds. Kids learn about road safety before having the chance to drive giant lego cars around a specially designed course with traffic lights, roundabouts and so on. At the end they'll receive a Legoland Driving Licence!
To get your heart pumping and possibly your hair wet, go for a ride on Vikings' River Splash – rush along the waterway through a Viking kingdom made of lego while trying to stay dry.
The latest addition to the plethora of rides is the Jolly Rocker – this is one of those enormous boats that swings back and forth and leaves your stomach in your mouth, or worse, in your lap. It swings to a height of 18 metres, so hold on tight, and make sure you have a light lunch beforehand.
There are plenty of gentler rides for the toddlers, as well as the faint-hearted. Fairy Tale Brook is a relaxing boat trip through scenes from various fairy tales, while the DUPLO train is another gentle yet fun experience.
Besides the rides there are lots of other activities on offer. Miniland is as the name suggests – a land of miniatures – made of lego, naturally. Take a stroll through the park and see how many famous landmarks you can spot – Big Ben is in there, as is Brighton Pier and the Angel of the North. There are even lego versions of the Top Gear presenters!
The Imagination Centre runs workshops showing how to get the most out of lego, passing on tips and tricks regarding the best building techniques. There are also some rides in this section, as well as the popular Imagination Theatre showing stunning 4D lego-themed movies.
