Darts is a game of skill with a century long history. The sport has enjoyed popularity with everyone from peasants to royalty. It is an easy game to learn but a hard game to master.
To play, you will require a dartboard, a set of darts and a space to set up. Darts equipment can be purchased at any sports store. For better quality gear, try the online DartsShop. If you are playing at a club, they should provide everything.
The game is played by throwing darts at the dartboard, or target. Points are awarded based on the position of the darts that stick in the board. The winner is the person with the highest amount of points at the end of the game.
Every dartboard has a bullseye, an inner circle and an outer circle. The circular target is further divided into twenty thin wedges which correspond to a number between one and twenty.
If the players dart lands in the very outer section, where the numbers are printed, the players scores that amount of points.
If the players hits the outer circle, their points are double the number that corresponds to their wedge.
If the player strikes the inner circle, they receive triple points.
Bullseye is worth fifty points.
If the player fails to hit the target, or if their dart falls from the board, they do not receive any points.
To hone your skills, try playing darts games like Around the Clock. In Around the Clock, players aim to hit the numbers one to twenty in chronological order and cannot move on to the next number until they have hit the previous one. This activity improves aim.
Once you've improved your game, you might like to try playing in clubs and competitions. Try Google or the Yellow Pages to find a darts club near you.
