There's a French Restaurant in our midst in the form of Le Trader.

Le Trader's name came about as the owners searched for a French name that could be pronounced without too much hassle. And this name has a double meaning as the restaurant sources natural and organic produce depending on seasonal availabilities and trades a delightful French dining experience. Yolande is the front of house and her smile warms the restaurant with her extensive knowledge of food and wines to match.

It was an easy decision for them to showcase southern France as the chef, Christophe is from Toulouse, an area which is famous for duck dishes. Christophe has worked most of his life at his family's restaurant and brings a French bistro style fare including the famous duck a'la orange, confit the canard and foie gras.

Also on offer are organic breakfasts. In France there's no tradition of breakfast but the team from Le Trader love the Australian culture of a big substantial breakfast on weekends. They have taken this on board with offerings of healthy breakfasts available until 3 pm daily.

A typical French lunch is also available with options of delicious crepes made with gluten free flour, and generous organic salads without the price tag. Le Trader's philosophy is authentic, delicious French cuisine with a fresh and healthy twist. They also have a desire to bring back to customers the flavours that their parents and previous generations were able to enjoy.

They offer a lazy afternoon sharing boards to enjoy with French wine. Enjoying the sunny afternoons during the spring/summer months, the French refer to this as 'Apero time' - a snack before dinner - before rolling onto dinner service.

With my dependable gaggle of gals, we descended on Le Trader to try French cuisine. We couldn't go past the fresh tartare de saumon- infused with apple cucumber and onion and finely chopped salmon served with crispy thin sliced potato chips. The seared scallops served with sweet potato puree were devoured in seconds as well as the goat's cheese tartine with poached pear and walnuts. What a match of flavours.

Mains varied from a juicy fillet of beef with hand cut potatoes to perfectly seasoned rack of lamb with red wine jus or chicken breast fillet with declicious seasonal vegetables of mushrooms and beans. I can account for a moist duck breast with sweet potato offset by the Grand Marnier sauce. I'm drooling just remembering this dish.

And of course, I couldn't go past the café gourmand - a dessert trio with coffee. How could you go past trying the fondant au chocolat. crepe suzette with grand marnier poured on top and set alight for that extra effect a couple scoops of artisan ice cream?

Le Trader is a restaurant where simple, quality food matters. It is also licensed but BYO is welcomed too. You won't be disappointed with this little taste of France at your doorstep.
