Time is so rare these days, when you finally get a moment to yourself you're already cramming in another 100 things you need to get done.
But if there's one thing the spring clean, car wash and autobiography can wait for - it's this:
Lazy River Boutique Bed and Breakfast.
Just an hour out of Perth, located right next to the Murray River, Lazy River B&B offers the ultimate weekend escape, without the long travel time or huge expense.
Lazy River Boutique B&B is owned by passionate foodies Liz and Steve, a husband and wife team who met while training at the prestigious Hotel School in Lausanne, Switzerland.
Having run their own hotels and restaurants in the past, Lazy River B&B is a true testament to their years of combined experience. The retreat includes four gorgeous timber cottages with your own spa and Foxtel, separated with a common-room full of books and games.
Each cottage has its own private spa
The natural setting makes you feel like all your day-to-day stresses disappear as soon as you drive in, and one thing is for certain - these guys
really know their food.
After a casual kayak on the Murray River to work up an appetite, our evening of indulgence began with a bottle of sparkling, served with a huge tasting plate of delicacies, while we relaxed on our cottage verandah overlooking the trees and paddock of horses.

Needless to say, we devoured everything on the plate - including mini bruschetta, stuffed mushrooms, fresh bread and dips…we were like 5 year olds on Christmas morning.

With a short interval to digest our bounty, the first course arrived at our cottage. The best part about the 3 course dinner Steve and Liz prepared for the evening, is that it was specifically selected by us. And not off a common menu - no siree. Instead, Steve will contact his guests before their arrival and prepare your favourite meal, whatever that may be.
We started with chicken and corn soup, and with no exaggeration, it's the best soup I've tasted. Ever. Then Liz and Steve returned on their golf buggy with our main - chicken kiev, crispy roast potatoes, and salad with creamy dressing.
The best chicken and corn soup in the world
'Bursting at the seams' was an understatement at this point. But when the custard-filled profiteroles smothered in chocolate sauce arrived at our candle-lit table, we managed to find just the
teeniest bit of room. You'd pay hundreds for this kind of meal and service anywhere else.
After a great nights sleep, we woke up to a basket of fresh croissants, breads, jams, butter, fresh egg omelette tarts, freshly squeezed juice, cereals, muffins, and milk in a bottle (when was the last time you had
real milk from a bottle??).
If we could move, we probably would have squeezed in a game of tennis, or travelled a short distance down the road to the Pinjarra Zoo or Pinjarra Golf Course. Instead we patted our very full bellies and reluctantly took the inevitable drive home.
My only regret is not knowing this place existed sooner. Lazy River B&B not only offers the ideal romantic escape just one hour from Perth, it is also the ultimate food-lovers getaway, showcasing some of WA's best produce prepared with true love and passion.
