The restaurant that takes a big appetite
Moe's BBQ
My friend about to attempt the Moe's BBQ

I have heard of few heroic characters that have been and accomplished the one and only 'Moe's BBQ'. I recently visited Lazy Moes in Ballarat and decided to take on this challenge. The plate arrived and the waitress couldn't wait to put it down, "It's so heavy, good luck" she said.

Sausages, kebab, steak, bacon chips and gravy, this 2kg meaty meal looked enough to feed the entire table. I immediately regretted consuming the two extra large Cokes waiting for this mammoth meal to arrive. They're not wrong stating on the menu that this meal 'Takes a big appetite'.

After a twenty-minute attempt, I unfortunately decided I would not be able to conquer this challenge, leaving half a plate full of food and a very bloated stomach. Dining at Lazy Moe's resembles an American restaurant, with everything super-sized and a ridiculous amount of fries included with most meals.

Despite my weak attempt at the famous banquet, I enjoyed dining at this restaurant. It is very family orientated and probably not the kind of place you'd take your girlfriend on a first date, nonetheless they have a massive variety of food and drinks and a pretty good kids menu.

Since, I have been back to Lazy Moe's on two occasions. The second time I failed to learn my lesson ordering the lamb kebab, which I swear, took me two days to get over the feeling of 'full'. I have also had the chicken burger and highly recommend trying this, as it is very tasty and a reasonable size.

Lazy Moe's are also open for breakfast and lunch and have an amazing pancake dessert menu. There is no way you could think about dessert after eating a main meal, but if you're a sweet tooth a pancake serving would definitely suffice for dinner. Consisting of half a tub of ice cream and every topping imaginable, it is a feat on its own to get through this decadent dessert.

For the amount of food you receive, the prices are respectable. A meal at dinnertime would cost you around $15-$30, plus drinks or pancakes for around $13. You can save even more if you choose to share a meal, which is suggested for most meat-based feasts. I wouldn't call it fine dining, but if you prefer quantity over quality then this is definitely the place for you.

There are also Lazy Moe's restaurants in Tullamarine, Maribyrnong, Melton, Oakleigh and Forest Hill.)
