It's been a long time since my student days and it felt even longer ago sitting in a laundromat doing some washing, but sometimes needs must when the devil drives. With winter drawing near it was time to take the bed throw-overs out of the blanket chest and give them a good wash after their summer hibernation.

Being too heavy for our home washing machine, I decide to use some free time and take them to a laundromat and use the larger industrial sized washing machines. I quickly search on the Internet and I found the Water Spirit Laundromat on Main Street. This is a self service laundromat, but I found there to be sufficient signage, which was easy to follow to make the wash easy to do.

Travelling in from the west of the city, I found it easy to find. The parking is located behind the shopping centre and is free for the first hour for patrons - more than enough time to do the washing.

The laundromat was extremely clean. Adequate seating and benching was provided for the patrons. The laundromat boasted six double sized washing machines that were adequate for two washing baskets and one giant washing machine for loads of four washing baskets. Similarly, there was adequate provision of clothes dryers; with three of the larger and smaller dryers. Washing powder is provided in the vending machines along with confectionery. The vending machines accept $5 and $10 notes along with coins, but on purchasing an item it does allow you to obtain coins needed to complete your wash should you run out.

Free Wi-fi and magazines are provided to pass the time.

Prices are reasonable, with $12 being charged for the giant washer and $4 for the double. Dryers are charged at $3 per 25 mins for the larger dryers and $2 for 15 mins on the smaller dryers. However, should you get to the laundromat between 7 to 8am weekdays or 5pm to 6pm on weekends then the rates drop to $4 for the giant and $2 for the double washers with $2 per 15 mins for the dryers. I thought that these prices were very reasonable, especially after I had popped into several laundromats on the way here and noticed prices were generally 30% higher.

It took me about 45 minutes to get the washing done and I was all set for the winter. More importantly, it left me free to go and play some golf, but that'll be another story.
