Salsa: Where to do Latin Dancing in Brisbane

As Gloria Estafan sang "The rhythm is going to get you". No matter how much you try to avoid it, how often you plead that you have two left feet and a genetic inability to follow a beat, we all know what you really want to do is move to sultry sounds of Latin music.

Brisbane has lots of places where you can Salsa, Samba and Cha Cha. Here are some of the best known regular locations.

Cloudland Thursday nights

Every Thursday night from 7 pm at the Cloudland bar and club in Fortitude Valley there is live Latin music with free Latin dance classes between 8-9 pm.



Cloudland has the most energetic crowd and once the music starts people get up to dance without hesitation.

Casablanca

Casablanca Cafe , Restaurant and bar has Brazilian Rhythms on Friday nights and Salsa on Sunday's, with free dancing lessons from 7:00 - 7:30 pm on Sunday. Casablanca is a better option if you are looking for a more smaller, laid back but still enthusiastic scene.



Brisbane Square (Redacliffe Place)

Every Friday night from 7 pm the talented and inept come together for free Latin lessons and dancing in front of Brisbane Library (opposite the Casino). There is always a fair sized crowd and after the lessons you can stay and find a dance partner while they play music.

Brisbane's annual Fiesta Latina

Every year in November, Brisbane holds the Fiesta Latina , which means even more opportunities to get into Latin Rhythms. This means three days of dance, food, arts, crafts and Latin culture.



What you need to salsa

Loose clothing and a sense of rhythm is helpful. The main thing is that women should wear shoes they can twirl in. So no runners or cross trainers, though I suspect you could wear basketball shoes as they are designed to help you spin on your front of your foot. Guys luckily can wear any type of shoe.
