Lakeside Leisure Centre is located in Tuggeranong, 20 minutes south of the CBD. The Leisure Centre is now run by the YMCA and has recently had an upgrade to the interior as well as a $600K Splash Park added to the lawn area behind the pool. The design of the Splash Park was chosen by the local community and opened last month in November 2015. The Splash Park is a highlight of this kid friendly centre, drawing large crowds already to this fun summer attraction.

The Splash Park is located in the grassy reserve outside the pool area. There are buckets that fill with water and then tip over your head, water cannons to shoot water at each other, sprinklers and water jets coming from every angle. With the water set at 28 degrees the kids will enjoy getting cooled off without getting cold. There is plenty of room around the Splash Park to set up your towels and stay for a picnic.

Inside the Leisure Centre there is also a toddler pool for children to have a splash without the water getting too deep. With large doors that open out, the swimming pool has a airy feel to it so it provides shade as well an indoor/outdoor airflow.

There is also another children's area with a gradual slope down to a shallow pool - perfect for young children to play and still stand. It gets deeper further around for adults and older children to relax and play. There is also a large spa which is a popular area for adults and kids to enjoy together.

For exercise enthusiasts or swimming training there is a lap pool area that can be roped off for children's programs. The day we visited the centre had an inflatable slide and obstacle course for school groups to utilise.

The pool also has a sauna, crèche, swimming lessons and a gym onsite. The swimming pool change rooms have been upgraded, so it is easy to give your kids a shower and have plenty of room in the changerooms to get dressed afterwards. At the time of writing the food outlet was closed with no opening date set, so ensure you take a picnic with you to sustain the kids for the day.
The Lakeside Leisure Splash Park will be a popular place for Canberran families to enjoy this Summer. With such a family friendly activity only minutes from the Tuggeranong Town Centre, expect it to be busy these school holidays. The kids love interacting and squealing with each other in the Splash Park however - so busy can also be more fun!
