There aren't many places in Sydney that you can call fine dining and family friendly – , is definitely both of these things.

Step into the divinely decorated Japanese restaurant and be transformed to a relaxing oasis where you will be wined and dined by the friendly staff. The walls are lined with beautiful bamboo shoots and the earthy colours used give the restaurant a real sense of modernity and class.

While any modern couple would feel right at home at this restaurant, families with young children are just as comfortable. The restaurant caters perfectly to children with a designated kids area available to give mums that small break to enjoy their meal.

The stunning menu has something for everyone and is so exquisitely made, you simply won't be disappointed, offering traditional Japanese dishes with an Australian feel. What sets this place apart from any generic sushi place is the fact that every dish has a story and a flavour that just makes you want more. Luckily the meals are so light that you can actually have seconds. Or even try one of the delicious dessert options such as the chocolate fondue or the Shiratama Anmitsu which is a rice flour dumpling and red bean served with brown sugar reduction and green tea ice-cream and mixed fruits.

The most popular main dishes are the Gome-Ae which are delicious green vegetables with a white and black sesame dressing. The textures are so perfectly put together it's no wonder that people keep coming back for more.

Another favourite is the utterly delicious Tofu Steak. This isn't any ordinary rubbery piece of tofu, the Tofu Steak at Kokoroya is pan fried with delicious caramalised Terriyaki sauce that gives the steak a beautiful sweet flavour and is light on the stomach.

For those after something a little more adventurous you can't go past the Deluxe Sashimi Mix. Carefully placed onto the serving dish, this share plate is something you'll almost consider not touching because it looks like a piece of artwork. Dig in to the sashimi sourced daily from the Sydney fish markets. On the Deluxe Sashimi Mix you are served Salmon, Tuna, Scallops, Scampi and all the very best quality fish, you can taste how fresh it all tastes.

Families will feel some relief as there is a kids menu available with two options, a combination of mini sushi rolls, Japanese finger food and fruit jelly while the Australian option consists of chicken nuggets, hot chips, Edamame beans and fruit jelly. These options are perfect for the kids and are priced at just $5.

is a treasure for the Maroubra community and a must try for anyone who loves a fine dining experience.
